Hello friends! I know it may be the middle of Summer and you’re no where near thinking about Fall (well….maybe some of you are!), but it’s that time of year again where the Nordstorm Anniversary Sale (also known as the “NSALE”) is right around the corner! If you’re new to the sale, it’s where Nordstrom marks down a lot of their Fall new arrivals before going on regular price in August. That means you can stock up on high quality staples before the Fall season arrives. This is a great time to evaluate what’s in your closet, and start thinking about what you need for the upcoming Fall and Winter months. Nordstrom has a great selection of low and mid to high end basics and capsule pieces that I always recommend shopping. Some of you may even decide to splurge on those higher priced items that will last you years.
This will be my sixth year shopping the sale and every year, I find myself still wearing pieces that I bought from Nordstrom Anniversary sales from years prior. It truly is worth it, even though it can be overwhelming at times. I will say, the sales in the years past were a bit better (in terms of inventory, inventory levels and just the general sale mechanics) but I found so many great items this year. I hope to take some of that overwhelming feeling away and make this as simple as possible with tips and tricks that you can follow.
Who can shop the sale?
The sale is intended to reward Nordstrom cardholders during “Early Access”, since cardholders are a big contributor to Nordstrom (by making that investment in getting a card in the first place!). Therefore, cardholders can shop the sale first. The handy-dandy chart below spells out the different card holder tiers and when they are able to shop the sale. After Early Access, the sale is available to everyone regardless if you own a Nordstrom credit card or not!
What items should I plan to buy?
I know the sale can be overbearing and often times overwhelming! You see so many of your favorite influencers sharing collage after collage with products and links. Where do you even start? Like I always recommend: only buy the items that you absolutely need. I don’t even advocate on getting the Nordstrom credit card unless you plan to use it responsibly for years and pay off balances in full before the due date. There is no pressure for you to even shop my links, or buy anything from me. I’m using this sale to promote items (since it’s part of my job as a blogger/content creator) for those that are interested in shopping a few items from the sale. Obviously, I will promote a lot of products since I have a wide range of followers who would like ideas. But that doesn’t mean I want you to go out and max out a credit card and buy tons of things.
TIP: I recommend doing a closet inventory and look for shortages for the upcoming Fall. Do you need a new pair of work slacks? Do you want to invest in a winter coat that will last you for years? Are you in need of a new pair of sneakers? Do you need to stock up on some of your favorite beauty items? Those are the questions you should be asking yourself as you determine what, if anything, you should purchase. It’s also important to note that you can wait for AFTER the sale if you don’t see anything you like, or if you want to take some time to think about it.
Focus on Capsule staples for Fall
I always recommend sticking to capsule basics that you can wear time and time again if you are shopping the NSALE. The following guide below, outlines some ideas to get the wheels turning to see if you need anything that you’re lacking. A capsule staple is an item that you can mix and match with many outfits OR, a high quality piece that you can get a lot of wear out of. These items below are great for casual and workwear or even if you work from home too!

Tips for shopping the sale
As you probably already know, the Nsale is very popular and there are thousands of avid and eager shoppers every year. Because of this, a lot of sought after items sell out fast. I know it can feel daunting and you may fear your favorite items will sell out! So, I recommend preparing ahead of time and browse the NSALE “Preview” that is already up on the Nordstrom website right here.
TIP: I recommend making things a lot easier by creating a shopping “Wishlist” on the Nordstrom website BEFORE the sale starts/your shopping window opens. That way, you can immediatly add those items to your cart, helping you get the item faster! To add items to your wishlist, all you have to do is find the item you want on the Nordstorm website. Then, click on the size you want and hit the “Add to wishlist” button as circled in the example below. You can create a specific wishlist for the Nordstrom sale as well, to organize your shopping wishlist.
If you’re favorite item sells out, don’t worry. Nordstorm restocks it’s inventory thoroughout the sale, and also after the sale. Another advange to creating a wishlist is when those items are re-stocked, you will be notified!
TIP: I also recommend shopping online versus going to the store. The inventory online is better (in my opinion) than in the store and you can also pay for expedited shipping if you need the item (s) faster.
In Summary….
I hope this short and sweet guide was helpful and a great introduction to the NSALE! I’ve put together just a couple of style guides below that I thought you would like! As always, I’ll be sharing more outfit guides and products on my Instagram and Instagram stories this week when the sale opens for me! Make sure you’re following my Instagrame here to get all of the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale content!
